- Terra Grain Fuels Inc. - 150 MLY Ethanol Facility - Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan
VCM Construction Ltd., in joint venture with EllisDon Design Build Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario has been awarded a $140 million Engineer-Procure-Construct Contract with Terra Grain Fuels Inc. of Regina, Saskatchewan. The project involves the construction of a 150 million litre per year, wheat-based ethanol facility. The project is located on a 160 acre green field site, twenty eight kilometers west of Regina, at Belle Plaine Saskatchewan. The required feedstock will consume over 15 million bushels of local wheat annually. EllisDon/VCM In Joint Venture is partnered with technology provider Delta-T Corporation of Williamsburg Virginia, and Cochrane Engineering of Saskatoon providing general engineering support.
Fast track construction started on site mid September 2006, with completion scheduled for December 2007. Project highlights and facility features include:
- an anticipated peak work force of 150 trades people requiring about 144 person years of construction employment
- leading edge process technology including zero process effluent, energy efficient ring dryers for the distiller grains, and integral energy recycling technology
- specialized process components sourced throughout North America and Europe
- on site grain storage capacity for 1.35 million bushels of high starch wheat
- inbound and outbound rail and truck service, with 15 days of on-site ethanol storage
- 16,700 square meters of building infrastructure, 9,000 cubic meters of concrete, 1,020 tonnes of structural steel, 16,200 lineal meters of large diameter process piping, over 100 kilometers of electrical cabling, and with over 13,500 connected horse power of process technology load
